Alan Turner
I was born in Lambeth and spent my youth in Peckham before moving to the area in 1979 after completing my school years but have recently moved to New Addington, still only 15 minutes away from my club. I have played golf since around the age of ten but only socially with friends and family until I Joined Shortlands in 2021 after accepting redundancy after 42 years in banking at Nat West.
The members here at Shortlands are different from other clubs in the friendliness and the social side of things which I have found to be so true, the welcome I received, and all new members is second to none.
I have recently become a Grandad which is taking up a great deal of my spare time leaving me only 5 days a week to focus on my golf.
I am honoured to be the club captain, following in the footsteps of some amazing past captains of the club who have given, and are still giving, so much to the club.
Upon receiving the invitation from the 2025 Captain Denis Cooper, I immediately accepted, and we both celebrated with a fry up at the local Bridge Café.
I am also delighted to have the support of my Vice Captain for 2026 Stuart Mackie. We are working together well, and I know this will continue throughout my year and into his.
I am looking forward to representing this great club in 2026 and am grateful for the advice and support of the clubs past captains and would like to also wish the 2026 Ladies Captain Tracy Rolfe all the very best in our joint year.
